Difference Between Vertical Blinds Over Roller Blinds?

Different areas of your home, your personal knowledge, preferences and experience are some of the factors that play an important role in your decision when it comes to choosing blinds. But, the blind’s features and its benefits also play a part in this decision. As you might be aware, different blinds are used for different roles, and they all have their own merits and demerits. However, we cannot ignore the fact that all blinds have a common set of purposes which include controlling the amount of light entering in a room, offering some level of privacy, and integrating the overall theme of a room. But, this does not imply that they are all the same. In this article, we will have a quick review and note some of the differences between the most common blinds used in Singapore; the vertical blinds and the roller blinds.

How Roller Blinds work

Vertical blinds Vs Roller blinds

Vertical blinds

These blinds have horizontal top units attached above the windows. And below them, louvers/vanes/slats hang down. To operate the vertical blind, you just have to pull a string/cord (attached to the top unit) to rotate the slat if you want to open or close it completely, or open it partially. To date, these blinds are the fastest and easiest to operate, and they are the most effective blinds when it comes to performing they function. In addition, they provide a practical yet attractive solution for controlling light and providing insulation in any office.

Their purpose:

The vertical blinds work through reflection of solar heat. They minimize the rate and amount of heat passing through the office windows. In fact, these blinds have been suggested to be the most cost effective way to prevent direct solar heat from entering the room and also help lower the cost of air conditioning.

Materials used:

Vertical blinds are manufactured from different materials and in different designs. Some of the designs found in the market include PVC louver, solid, perforated and textured patterns as well as stitch-bond fabrics. In addition, they come in different colors, variety of controls and valance options to choose from.

Uses:

These blinds are mostly manufactured to be fitted on large windows, wide windows or sliding glass doors. However, if they are scaled down, they can also be fitted to cover smaller windows.

Availability:

These blinds are available in different densities ranging from opaque to translucent. However, this depends on the amount of light one needs to control. If you are looking for the best material to block UV light, the vertical blinds made from PVC are undoubtedly your best option. They contain UV inhibitors to block sunlight and provide darkening of the room.

Pros:

One of the advantages of using vertical blinds is that they allow minimum dust to settle on their surfaces. And, for the little dust that settles on it, they are easily cleaned.

Roller blinds

Like the vertical blinds, the roller blinds can be placed inside or outside the window recess. Most roller blinds are attached to aluminum tubes and attached to chain pulleys for easier functioning. You just need to pull the pulley to set the blind at your desired level.

Their Purpose:

The roller blind helps in blocking glaring sunlight, preventing harmful UV light and providing privacy. These blinds are becoming the most popular and preferred choice among Singapore residents as they not only accumulate less dust as compared to vertical blinds and curtains but, are also easier to clean as you do not have to pull the whole roller blind down to do it.

Uses:

Unlike vertical blinds that are used on large windows and doors, the roller blinds are designed to fit any window size.

Material used:

Some of the common materials used to make roller blinds include polyester, cotton and vinyl. Each material is used in different rooms. The roller blinds made from cotton should be used in rooms with lesser chances of becoming damp or wet. For roller blinds made from polyester, they can be placed in any room as they are more durable. The roller blinds made from vinyl material can be placed in bathrooms. This is because they cannot be ruined easily by water.

Pros:

Roller blinds are cheaper as compared to other blinds. In addition, they come in different fabrics and designs for you to select from. They can also be customized to allow you print your own design on the fabric; unlike the vertical blinds.
